Romeoville Has Talent
Our first annual “Romeoville Has Talent” talent show at the Friendship Centre at HighPoint was a success! Seventeen groups performed at the finals night on June 2, 2012 to raise money for Romeoville’s Relay for Life, which supports the American Cancer Society. We raised more than $750 for our Relay team!
There were singers, dancers and rap groups, whose ages ranged from 11-72 years old. The first place winner happened to be newly hired Friendship Centre welcome desk staff member José Ramos, who sang Maroon 5’s “Payphone”. Our very own Robin Kronfeld, who is a leasing consultant for HighPoint Apartments, as well as a resident, took second place singing “Only Hope” and two teens from the community, Najee Hudson and Tim Payne won 3rd place, rapping an original song called “The Message”. There are some extremely talented people in our HighPoint Community!
Approximately 200 people came to watch the performers and we had volunteers from the apartment community selling refreshments, running the sound equipment and signing people up for our Relay for Life team. Additionally, we were very lucky to have three talented, experienced judges: Jen Bickel, the Jazzercise franchise owner, who holds classes at the Friendship Centre; Adam Hill, who is a music teacher at Romeoville High School and runs the high school’s talent show; and Renea Taylor, who is the choir director at Community Christian Church, which meets on Sundays at the Friendship Centre at HighPoint.
This turned out to be an exceptional community event and something we will do annually for years to come!
